'Grant': 3- Part Series, History Channel, *NEW*

Official trailer. The series is based Ron Chernow's acclaimed biography of the general and 18th president of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant. Exec. producer Leo DiCaprio. > The series aired over Memorial Day weekend; if you missed it here's a link suggested by a DU poster.

I hope it really pisses off the Robert E. Lee myth-supporters.

One thing I wish they had kept from Ron Chernow's biography was the description, by someone who attended Grant's funeral, of General Sherman and his grief. The wording was close to this: "It was quite extraordinary to see this oak of a man trembling from the violence of his weeping." It makes one's heart ache...

They were aware of the racist incidents in the news recently, and they had been asking a lot of questions about racism. With that in mind I thought they should learn more about the history of our country to better understand the problems we face today.

I was somewhat surprised that the show held their interest through three two-hour episodes. I highly recommend it.

Not always, but it helps. Good dad.

My kids (and wife) groaned whenever I stopped to read historical markers. But eventually they became deeply interested in history.

Early on, I realized my father had always stopped to read and ponder historical markers as well.

Historical context by members here at DU is one of the things I most appreciate about your terrific endeavor.

Thank you, as always, for all your teams' work!
