Related: About this forumThe Best and Most Detailed Large-Scale Model Railroad layout in the World
I loved this! You really need to enlarge to "full-screen" mode in order to appreciate all the wonderfully marvelous attention to detail. It reminds me of my childhood, I lived near a railroad yard.
The modular was built by a group of seven model train enthusiasts. This diverse group is made up of people who have a passion of early narrow gauge steam locomotives to modern day standard gauge diesels.
The purpose for forming this modular group was to provide the public a realistic look at model railroading in a large-scale format. The modules are highly detailed from the scratch built supporting structures and buildings down to the surrounding scenery. The trains and rolling stock that will be running on these modules will also be highly detailed and weathered.

(5,954 posts)It was 1982 when my stepfather married my mom, and moved into our house. Normally that might be a problem for a boy, but the first thing he did was to turn the whole basement of our house into a giant model train set. Apparently it had been a pet project since HE was a boy. He grew up in London during the war, and, due to the conditions, he never got the train set he wanted for Christmas. So, as an adult, he was determined to fulfill that wish with a vengeance. He hired a carpenter to build a giant maze-shaped table in the basement, and then he put down the tracks.
For his birthday, my mom told all of his friends to buy him HO scale buildings etc. I was then placed in charge of the DETAILING! I got to paint all the brick buildings and houses with smoke soot etc. I had a lot of fun with that.
