4. The press needs to get their act together

The senators know there is an election coming.

The question should not be "what do think of the presidents tweet?".
They can refuse an opinion.

It should not be, "will you condemn the presidents tweet?"
They can feign ignorance and therefore chose not to condemn the president

It should be "do you support the presidents tweet?"
They can either declare they do support the president - which looks bad for them with the voters
or they can say that they don't support the president - which looks bad for the president
or they can say they don't have an opinion, to which the follow up, or inference is that they can not support the president
