Police unions protect members in ways that make it virtually impossible to hold bad cops accountable. Roy Wood Jr. has a plan to fight back.

1. Police unions must be held accountable

They are the ones who need to pay up when an officer kills an innocent citizen. Not the city.

2. malpractice insurance and other things

Officers (Like doctors) must be required to carry a version of malpractice insurance.

When they assault, abuse or kill, their insurance premiums sill go up or their insurance can be cancelled and they will be unable to join a police force.

This is addition to strong citizen oversight, regulation changes to prevent excessive use of force and a comprehensive demilitarisation program.

Military personnel who are finished with their tours of duty should be banned from police roles until a predetermined "cooling-off" period if completed. This should include PTSD assessments, etc. This should definitely apply to personnel who have been in combat, live fire, etc.
