(7,715 posts)It's my all time favorite album, by the Fab Four or anyone else.
This album alone is proof positive about how great the Beatles were and are. It covers so many musical genres, and it is so much fun to listen to (except maybe Revolution 9!).

(4,333 posts)I love it. When I used to have to commute to work, it was an hour or so bus ride in and sometimes I'd put Rev 9 on repeat and listen to it 3 or 4 times over and over. Put one in a proper mood for work (especially for IT work at a bank!). But I like musique concrete, ambient and all sorts of electronic music so it's in my wheelhouse.

(7,715 posts)John was probably very stoned when he and Yoko "wrote" this. Note that I didn't say that i disliked Revolution 9...in its own right, it's part of the Fab Four's stunning repertoire of work. It's just not "fun"!
In any event, my real point is this is a superb album. It's sad to know that the lads weren't happy during the recording, and some say it was the beginning of the end.
One of my favorite reviews about the Beatles was from Rolling Stone's Record Guide. I think it was John Swenson who wrote that the Beatles albums, from Please Please Me and With the Beatles to the White Album and Abbey Road, was basically a complete progression of youth to adulthood, leaving you with the clear impression that there was nothing left to say as you literally heard four young men grow: it was almost like audibly listening to four youngsters grow up to be adults.
That is the amazing thing about the Beatles. They did everything they did in 6-8 years (putting aside the solo work). It is perhaps the most prolific body of artistic brilliance in such a short time. That is attributable to all four of them.
Love my Beatles!
