(38,445 posts)"BLAZING SADDLES" has a fart scene...when I first saw that in the theater, I couldn't stop laughing...
That scene came out of no where, and I couldn't believe it.. And...more important..I laughed my head off..

(3,057 posts)Always considered those his twin peaks of genius, although "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" is a close runner-up.
During my waitressing gig, I worked with a cook who was as big a Brooks fan as me. We spent the slow time throwing lines back and forth. Stopped him in his tracks with, "Scuse me while I whip this out!" He was done.

(3,057 posts)He was asked if he made it a point to make fun of Nazis whenever possible. His response? (Paraphrased) I don't know...why would a Jew want to make Nazis look ridiculous?

To stay seated in your living room while this scene is on. The man is a fucking genius. Couldn't find the scene, but Murphy Brown once told Elden he could only stay for New Year's Eve and watch The Producers with her if he promised not to dance during "Springtime for Hitler".
One of my proudest accomplishments of my teaching career was turning one of my kids onto Mel Brooks. Real shy kid. He approachd me after class...he had just seen the remake of The Producers and asked if I had ever seen it. I immediately started running lines, and told him, yeah had seen the original 10 or 117 times. Told him as his teacher, I couldn't recommend he watch any of Brooks' movies, but I could tell him they're some of the funniest ever made. He became a total Mel Brooks freak. We would yell lines across campus to each other. Don't even get me started on Blazing Saddles.

(38,445 posts)..Funny in a way I couldn't imagine. Many of Mel's films are like that.. He is a genius..recognized by some of us, too crude to some, ...unknown to many..and funny as can be..(to me)

(51,627 posts)I feel badly...he is really going to be sad now. They ate dinner together every night and watched Jeopardy and movies after both of their wives died.
