(56,018 posts)My husband and I watched this a couple of weeks ago. I highly recommend it. I wasn't overly intrigued by the narrator young woman and her travels, but it does add to the story in its own way. The interviews are wonderful and unless you are fluent in multiple languages, be prepared to read. While I could understand some of the languages, Hungarian is not one of them.

(43,938 posts)successfully blending multiple characters and aspects - scenes of the Shoa museum in Belsen, the 5 women who survived, archival film, Anne's friends at the camp and the home in Amsterdam.
Mirren's reading of the diary in Anne's room was superb and added much to the story, and I can tolerate very few 'reader' narrators. The historian Berenbaum is always effective and powerful.
The young woman, hmm. I understand the purpose of including her because of similar age to Anne and the appeal to younger audiences, esp. with the smartphone. It reinforced the film's emphasis on the vital importance of children to the continuance of life and remembrance. At first I thought it was a bit odd and distracting, then got the point and followed through. And it was subtly done fortunately.
