German Reichstag, Parliament Bldg. Fire, Feb. 27, 1933 Used By Nazis To Take Power

Last edited Sun Jul 19, 2020, 06:08 AM - Edit history (1)

(3 mins) BBC. Commmunists were blamed for the arson attack on Germany's Parliament building in Berlin on Feb. 27, 1933. The fire was used by the Nazis to take control of the country. On Jan. 30, 1933 Hitler had become Germany's Chancellor. Adolf Hitler was not elected to power in Germany by an overwhelming upsurge of popular demand.

- The Nazi Party certainly achieved substantial support, winning 37 % of the total vote in the 1932 election. This made it the largest party in the Reichstag, but it was Franz von Papen and other conservatives who persuaded the German president, Field Marshal von Hindenburg, to appoint Hitler as chancellor in a coalition government. He was the most powerful political leader in the country, but was a demagogue with no experience of government and they believed they would be able to bring him under control, while an alliance with the Nazis would bring them the support they needed in the Reichstag.
It was a disastrous misjudgement. Von Papen became vice-chancellor, but Hitler used his position adroitly to achieve a dictatorship, partly by building on reports of a supposed Communist conspiracy against the state. In March the Reichstag conferred dictatorial powers on him for four years. In June of the following year, in what he called ‘the night of the long knives’, Hitler eliminated about a hundred rivals. Hindenburg died in August 1934 and Hitler was proclaimed Führer of the German Reich, head of state and commander of the armed forces, giving him dictatorial power over the country. The consequences are only too well known...

- With elections set for early March,1933 the Nazis set about suppressing their political opposition. On February 4, Hitler’s cabinet issued the temporary Decree for the Protection of the German People, which restricted the German press and authorized the police to ban political meetings and marches. Specifically targeting the Communists, Minister of the Interior Hermann Göring ordered a raid on that party’s headquarters in Berlin on February 24. Though the authorities found nothing of note, they claimed that they had uncovered seditious material, including leaflets encouraging an armed revolt...https://www.history.com/topics/germany/reichstag-fire

....just be a matter of time and Trump and following Bannons playbook and Hitlers playbook, will “deconstruct” government and norms and create false crisis (or real ones) and start implementing laws that challenge our constitutional rights and then you will have a 9/11 or reichstag fire type of event and he will suspend your Constitution and implement Martial Law and it will be too late and you won’t be able to do a damned thing about it.

I didn’t believe it at the time he said this.

I do now.

I believe that they have been not just stacking the courts, but they have been deconstructing the government entities that we rely on and firing US Attorneys and Inspector Generals amd oversight and they also have created essentially the same type of “Pretorian Guard” and SchutzStaffel (SS) within the Homeland Security department and CBC and ICE that has no limits and even working with private for hire groups like Erik Prince’s Academi (formerly known as Blackwater and Xe).

Lafayette Park was the first test. I believe that the second test is Portland. The “PACT” that Trump has set is the first step before an Enabling Act.

This is serious and scary as fuck.

given Germany's history.. All these measures make us wonder about the state of law here, and what's coming up esp. with the election. Serious times. Some interesting views this new article.
..Fox News and right wing sources are already selling their audience on a vision of America in which blue states and cities are in “anarchy” and where violence “demands” a federal presence.. Trump means to send federal forces to Chicago, and Seattle, and anywhere else he can think of, explicitly to insert the chaos and violence that justifies taking even more federal control. And it would not be too much to believe that action is headed toward something very like a declaration of martial law, or a federalization of police forces.
However, there is one thing that can slow Trump’s action: Visibility. The right wing has been getting a stream of “antifa violence” fed to them 24/7 since the George Floyd killing..https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/7/18/1961747/-Things-in-Portland-were-getting-better-until-Trump-made-them-worse-deliberately

Martial law means military law. Same adjective as "martial arts".

Marshal is a noun or a verb, not an adjective.

Whether Marinus der von Lubbe was a patsy is another matter.

Anyway, notwithstanding the state of emergency, the suppression on free speech, and many candidates banned, the NSDAP could not muster more than 44% in the general election.

Whatever German you speak to and what I was taught in Gymnasium (College Prep) in Germany taught us that the Nazis blamed the communists but it was never proved and the “consensus” is the Nazis staged this false flag operation and quickly used it to set up the communists and solidify power and the Ermächtigungs Gesetz.

There is no credible evidence that the Nazi's started the fire, but doubts about von Lubbe, therefore it is a 'mystery'

A mystery.....which mystery do you believe?

I know the one that was taught to me in Germany by people who are disgusted and ashamed by the Nazis and want to teach the lessons about what happened....

OK - Since I last examined this the evidence has changed: -

For historian Peter Black, a consultant for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the one-man theory of van der Lubbe acting alone seemed correct until 2013, when new research came out with Benjamin Hett’s book, Burning the Reichstag. Hett wrote that, given the extent of the fire and the amount of time that would have been needed inside the Reichstag to set it, there was no way that van der Lubbe acted alone. Citing witness testimonies that became available after the fall of the Soviet Union, Hett argued that the Communists weren’t involved at all; rather, said Hett, the group of Nazis who investigated the fire and later discussed its causes with historians covered up Nazi involvement to evade war crimes prosecution.

Black does not entirely agree with Hett’s assessment, but he says that he is now convinced the one-man theory is false. “I would say that van der Lubbe could not have started that fire alone, based on the evidence that is now available,” he says. “It seems likely that the Nazis were involved. But you don’t have anyone who can say, yes, I saw the Nazis.”

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/true-story-reichstag-fire-and-nazis-rise-power-180962240/

After WWII, the theory that van der Lubbe acted alone had a status of 'the lone gunman theory' in JKF's assisantioon, an unpopular but serviceable explanation. Prodigious efforts were put into finding evidence of Nazi involvement without success. Either everyone who knew was dead, or here was a conspiracy to suppress the facts, or it never happened. The Bundesrepublik made every effort of address the Third Reich's crimes. If there was evidence of Nazi involvement in the destruction of Germany's parliament building, they would have publicized it. As for the consensus, it was something I read, 'a reluctant consensus', in der Spiegel years ago. I can't provide a link.

The police force won't identify themselves, and answer to some vague authority in the White House. They don't identify those they arrest. UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT MEANS!

It means they can plant fake protestors who do all the dirty deeds to make it appear there is anarchy and riots and lawlessness and chaos, but they never have to tell us who these people are. And they can blame it all on the vague Antifa.

This is a Trumpian charade, cooked up theater for public consumption.

The media need to stand tall and investigate everything. EVERYTHING.
