have always liked her and found him to be more poetic than my first impression led me to believe. I was surprised that they held an event to get out the vote. Seems this has been going on for a long time.

When combined is an equally unique sound. I loved Elliot's voice as well as Henry John Deutschendorf Jr.'s. Ahh nostalgia.

professors told us that, as impossible as it might be to believe, there would one day be someone worse than tricky dick. Not sure that even he envisioned the fascist currently soiling OUR HOUSE.

I have been a John Denver fan for like forever.

When I was a Girl Scout back in the early '70s, I had come to realize that a number of songs that the counselors would sing were written by him (like the song in the OP's video that was made more famous by Peter, Paul, and Mary and their cover of it). By the time Annie's Song hit the airwaves, I was hooked and proceeded to save allowance money and buy a starter guitar (and later a more middling one). I always wanted a 12-string though (like he has in that video) and I even had a tent-mate at Girl Scout camp in '76 who actually had one and brought it with her. I saw how unwieldy it was (and expensive) but noted the expansive sound that I liked.

I have 6 of his albums in a crate in the basement and sheet music galore. And I managed to get to Colorado (twice) although didn't get chance to get to Aspen. But where I did go that first trip to the state, was good enough to actually experience what he was talking about with respect to the mountains and amazing stars.

I remember when he had his "Rocky Mountain Christmas Show" and one of his guests was Steve Martin (before Martin debuted on SNL).

Between "Deliverance" and Martin, I always wanted to play banjo too and even made one out of my guitar back then (pulling a couple strings, restringing for a "5th" string, and tuning that one with a thumbtack. I finally bought a real one just before I retired and took a series of lessons literally a week after I retired 3 years ago.

R.I.P. John Denver (Henry John Deutschendorf) and "Momma" Cass Elliot.

As i said, i was glad to see them urging people to vote. The music wasn't bad either...

It is true, I listened to some of his songs when I saw this and do think he's quite a poet.

and wrote a song as a tribute to Costeau's ship.

True story but one of my best high school friends loved Johnny Mathis and we would literally call each other and whip out our records and play selected songs to determine which one could sing the highest note in a song (and this song was one of my selections as a contender).

Once to Florissant (2 weeks - and that was during the mid-summer when the Perseid meteor showers were peaking in the mid-80s) and it took 3 days for me to adjust to the altitude there. Got to ride the cog train up to Pike's Peak and went to the Pike's Peak or Bust Rodeo with the famous Clydesdales. I remember in Florissant at night, it would go down to the 40s and I could lay outside looking up and it did feel like I could literally "touch the stars". Truly "dark sky" territory, where the Milkway was as bright as a full moon.

I've also been to Denver for a week - in fact the week that our (Philly's) notorious former mayor Frank Rizzo, bought the farm - 1991.

I have always been a huge fan of Mama Cass Elliott. She was a powerhouse singer and a talented composer. In 1965, I was fortunate enough to have a nun in grade school who would play an eclectic array of music on Fridays as we waited the bell. Cass and Peter Paul and Mary were staples. Thanks again for dredging up those old memories..
