that called themselves "The Fighting Whites", here are a couple of their logos.
The university has a large student body of Native Americans. Because they didn't want school mascots depicting Native American badly, they decided to turn the table on those mascots and came up with "The Fighting Whites" name. The community loved the name. I also saw a Native guy the other day with the same shirt and said, "I like your shirt!" and he said that it's a good barometer for him in that most people get a nasty look on their faces when they see that shirt, but folks who smile or comment positively on it he'll usually stop and talk to. |
