I don't understand either how CA could have just fallen back on this? Most of us did stay at home and shelter in place... maybe that has changed? I don't understand it, I though Gavin Newsom was doing the right thing.

California is a large state with a few Republican counties that have very vocal Trump supporters who see the refusal to wear masks or abide by social distancing as their First Amendment right. So, they see the State's efforts to control COVID-19 as a black-ops effort to establish a dictatorship.

To review:

Mandatory masks to control pandemic = Dictatorship
Unidentified paramilitary kidnapping protesters = Freedom

As Brad Colburn whisked his metal detector over the tan sands of Huntington Beach, a rejection of Orange County’s spiking coronavirus infection rates surfaced.

“I don’t believe it. I don’t believe the rates are rising,” Colburn said. “They’re inflated. It’s another way of shutting everything down … of the Democrats trying to get what they want.”

The 58-year-old Huntington Beach resident said he has yet to wear a mask outside of shopping. Standing by a beach path as cyclists and in-line skaters zoomed by, he offered his own alternative policy to restrictive coronavirus health orders.

“If you don’t want to go outside, don’t go outside,” Colburn said.

and then have military jet flyovers to honor the teachers for their sacrifice. Merica! We'll put a boot in your ass, it's the American way.

It seems like the CDC has flip-flopped as directed by Trump. Perhaps the CDC will be issuing guidelines soon to drink bleach to fight COVID.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/23/health/cdc-coronavirus-school-guidelines-new/index.html

(CNN)New US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on education and child care come down hard in favor of opening schools, saying children don't suffer much from coronavirus, are less likely than adults to spread it and suffer from being out of school.

But the new guidelines posted Thursday do recommend that local officials should consider closing schools, or keeping them closed, if there is substantial, uncontrolled transmission of the virus.

The CDC has been promising new guidelines for more than a week, after demands from President Donald Trump that the agency alter its recommendations for opening schools.

"It is critically important for our public health to open schools this fall," CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield said in a statement announcing the updates.

No one seems to care about the well-being of the adults -- teachers, aides, principals, cooks, custodians, bus drivers, and others. As a 71-year-old substitute teacher I have a feeling I will be staying far, far away from the schools.

and some vulnerable students. The Blue Angels can do lots of flyovers. Maybe have some parades.
