Dr. Scott W. Atlas has argued that the science of mask wearing is uncertain, that children cannot pass on the coronavirus & that the role of the government is not to stamp out the virus but to protect its most vulnerable citizens as Covid-19 takes its course. Ideas like these, both ideologically freighted & scientifically disputed, have propelled the radiologist & senior fellow at Stanford Universitys conservative Hoover Institution into President Trumps White House, where he is pushing to reshape the administrations response to the pandemic.
Mr. Trump has embraced Dr. Atlas, as has Mark Meadows, WH chief of staff, even as he upsets the balance of power within the WH coronavirus task force with ideas that top government doctors & scientists like Anthony S. Fauci, Deborah L. Birx & Jerome Adams, the surgeon general, find misguided- even dangerous- according to people familiar with the task forces deliberations...

But the biggest thing about that approach is trump does not have to do anything to stop the virus.
Trump sitting on his ass not taking responsibility for covid is why he lets such an incompetant asshole lackey lead the CDC.

(41,131 posts)Libertarian style Fox News doctors advocating 'let it run its course' herd immunity, so little has to be done as you say. Millions more will die as a result. What exactly do we have in charge of a pandemic that's the worst in 100 years; even Birx and Fauci are opposed.

(41,131 posts)This is a very unwise and dangerous move, but what do we expect from a Fox TV doctor and admin.

(4,291 posts)Voluntarily expose yourself to the virus. Labor Day Weekend should offer lots of opportunities to visit superspreader events, but let's leave nothing to chance. Go to a hospital that is treating active COVID-19 patients and gather up all the contaminated items: swabs, sponges/compresses, blood and -- especially -- sputum samples. Or better still, to avoid compounding the health care staff's already overwhelming workload, go visit a morgue, and climb onto a slab with a cadaver. Then take whatever steps are necessary to infect yourself. Then, in 6-8 weeks, report back to us on how the "herd immunity" is working for you.
Without our having to join a seance.
This is way beyond quackery. He needs to lose his license to practice medicine.
