As one of the key founders of the modern labor movement, she was an unshakeable organizer, activist, and agitator, fighting for the rights of those who worked the mines and the textile mills, and notably fought against child labor, to the point where she lead a famous march in 1903 from here in Philly (from what is now the neighborhood of Kensington) all the way to Oyster Bay, NY (in Nassau County on Long Island), right to Teddy Roosevelt's house.
I remember seeing this audiobook posted here on DU several years ago and I actually took the time to listen to the entire audio book the following week, and have subsequently posted it at least once or twice since. If you have the time as we go into a coronavirus-fall, do listen to it.

(128,905 posts)I was one of our local's union stewards, then VP, and eventually President (AFGE) at my office for a bunch of years. When I became a supervisor, I obviously had to leave it but it never (and will never) leave me. And as "management" I always tried to look out for the membership (given the restraints on federal unions, which has a unique set of restrictions among unions).
(ETA - for completeness, I am retired now but still follow along with it since I do get a federal annuity and the union continues to fight for things that impact retirees too)

(128,905 posts)When I first listened to it, I did about an hour or so a day (the chapters are different lengths) and it was something that just drew me in. I made sure to get through the whole thing, even if it took me almost a week to do.
