Our profoundly sick society puts "value" where our money goes...everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, revolves around the almighty buck...who is given the most?
Nurses and Aides - who have been dying and exposing themselves to constant danger for MONTHS?
Teachers? Don't make them laugh...or maybe we should to help stop their tears - teachers care deeply about their kids and in many cases are also exposing themselves to danger to help them as much as possible and what rewards go there?
Athletes and singers, movie stars and "reality TV" porn. Bankers and Lawyers and CEOs (but definitely NOT the line workers) are getting fat and happy - as they have been for a long, long time now. The big money goes to the vapid and insignificant while the vital and critical for life as we know it goes unrewarded, un-valued, un-thanked.
This society needs to be allowed to consume itself. I wish that it were not so because many millions are going to die from neglect, disease, wars, prejudices and a lack of access to water and food that should not have to do so...but they will as the greed infected sick husk of modern society implodes on itself and takes the vulnerable down first.
I am growing a significant hatred for the 'system' that we have sold ourselves into. Life has no meaning and money is king. Advertising and marketing control every aspect of life these days, at an increasingly diabolical percentage of what many people - specifically those who do not READ or THINK for themselves - do from moment to moment and decision to decision. Its hideous and destructive and whether we want it or not, it is in terminal decline. The decisions made over the next 5-15 years will determine the glide path for the end of this society and the transformation to a new one. There is a war brewing and unlike the 20th century wars, this one is going to be about survival and not territorial ambitions or vengeance or even totalitarianism.
We are staring down a future of HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of climate refugees everywhere around the globe. The time to plan for that is rapidly expiring and the serious proposals to address this have not seen the light of day (to my knowledge). What is ugly now, without immediate and intensely focused action, will look quaint in a short order...
