As usual, I found that an odd choice of words. "Like" playing it down, not I choose to play it down. The use of the word "like" in that context sounds rather perverse and ego-maniacal.

Obviously, it is a reflection of the kind of leader and person Trump is. He does things because he likes or wants to do them, not because as president he should do them or it is the reasonable, right thing to do. His use of his very limited vocabulary is often bizarre, but also very revealing.

just jumps out at me. The worst one is the word "beautiful" and I have to wonder if he even knows what the word means.

"We won World Wars out of these fort bases. I’m not going to go changing them… We won two World Wars, two World Wars – beautiful World Wars – that were vicious and horrible."

"[They’re] running into death just like soldiers running into bullets… it’s incredible to see. It’s a beautiful thing to see."
(Comparing doctors and nurses on the coronavirus frontlines to soldiers running into bullets.)

"You have a red button in the plane and the pilot has a huge problem in the back… He presses a button and sleeping gas comes out the entire back of the plane goes to sleep. It's a beautiful sleeping gas – it puts people to sleep."

"One of the things that we will discuss is the purchase of lots of beautiful military equipment because nobody makes it like the United States."

"We should immediately stop sending our beautiful American tax dollars to countries that hate us and laugh at our President’s stupidity!"

And of course, there's always his classic "beautiful clean coal."

Who talks like that?

as a general laziness with language (among other ways he's lazy.) He's not going to bother learning to use more precise words to improve the clarity of his communication, and certainly not for any sort of interest in the aesthetics of language.

Though it seems he'll often put some effort into his word choice for the purpose obfuscation.

He is very lazy, using the same tired adjectives over and over again. For someone who talks as much as Trump does, that is a lot of "great", "tremendous", "disgraceful", and "fake". I don't think he needed a very diverse vocabulary in the business world. He was probably using the scripts over and over again.

I know what you mean about using a better choice of words when he is obfuscating, though he may have consulted one of his speechwriters first. Occasionally, I can tell when a word is totally new to him, as he is noticeably uncomfortable saying it.

rump has the potential for every single thing out of his mouth being a lie or counter to reality - that's not easy
to refute and explain via facts in a debate setting with moderators who aren't fact-checking.

He's a BS'er through and through. He hopes his listeners will just accept the last thing he said without giving it any thought.

A lot of times he interrupts himself or just leaves a statement incomplete, leaving the listener fill in the blanks. Then they fill in those blanks with what they wish he had said. And naturally they agree with this imaginary statement.
