1. Look, for anyone paying attention this has been obvious since early April...

As soon as the data began showing that COVID-19 was much more deadly in the minority and poor communities, the entire tone of the response shifted immediately.

When there were a lot of unknowns around the transmission (surface or airborne? single exposure or prolonged?) and outcomes (death rates initially looking like 10% fatalities, legitimate fear of transmission via physical contact, etc.) of the outbreaks, the country WAS in a panic and shutdown. Interstates in the St. Louis region were frighteningly empty. Stores were all closed. Toilet paper was nary a place to be bought or found...

And then?

The death rates within exposed communities began to get publicity. African-Americans were hit particularly hard, but so too were other minorities and the poor. Rich and white? Not so much an immediate issue on the surface And immediately armed nuts from the right wing started demanding "reopen the country". The government response became the same as it is today - chaotic and ineffectual. There was a window of time in March when it seemed like the news from Europe (especially Italy) was scaring people into real action...but it evaporated when the lines of race were introduced into this pandemic on American shores.

From then on, COVID-19 has been politicized and bastardized as anything BUT a PUBLIC health crisis...the carnage rolls on with 30,000 to 50,000 new cases a day and 500-1,000 deaths every day. The initial impacts have been weathered, but prolonged exposure to the unchecked virus only means that the current "plan" is to just quit and allow the disease to run rampant until herd immunity MAY be achieved and somewhere between 1 and 6 million additional Americans are dead.

The Trump supporters BELIEVE that this problem will magically pass them over like the Angel of Death on Passover if only they festoon their doorways with MAGA-inspired shit instead of lamb's blood. Tragically, a great many of them won't be here next year to realize just how badly they have been played and led astray by their own desire to believe ANYTHING that tells them they are better than others by birth and skin.
