The idea being that though usually tormented by the elder sibling - and ignored by the parents - they'd often displace their resentment onto the little brother/sister.

The conceited elder sibling = the wealthy
The unjust parents = the gummint
The hated little brother = the poor/minorities, etc.

That's one theory, anyway.

Through my own experience I believe the middle child tends to be the peacemaker and caretaker.
