Vice President Mike Pence echoed some of President Donald Trump's most common falsehoods and misleading statements during the lone vice presidential debate with Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) -- though in a more restrained, neatly packaged way.

The Salt Lake City debate was a less chaotic affair when compared to September's first meeting between Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden. But there were traces of that event in Pence's delivery of some of the same lines that the President often repeats.

Harris, too, made some claims that were misleading or lacked context, but those paled in comparison to the litany of statements from Pence that were either untrue or needed additional context.

Coronavirus and the Trump administration's response dominated the start of the debate and was referenced throughout, and the threat of the virus -- due to the plexiglass barriers separating each desk -- was apparent before either candidate spoke a word. The rivals also argued over economic recovery, the future of health care in America and the importance of tackling the climate crisis.

LOL, the biggest lie was his denial of his and Trump's lying. Pence, the squeaky-clean Christian, eh?

Yes, Chinese were prevented from coming to the States, but 40,000 Americans were allowed to come home.

Did you see that? 40,000!!!!!!!!!!

And you can tell me that not ONE of them had COVID=19?

The New York Times calculated in April that at least 430,000 people arrived in the United States on direct flights from China since Jan. 1, including nearly 40,000 in the two months after Trump imposed restrictions. Moreover, screening proceedings of travelers from China have been uneven and inconsistent, the Times said.

6. This is all good that Daniel Dale factchecks Pence, but, and maybe some people will not like to hear

Kamala Harris missed a lot of opportunities to factcheck Pence right and then. Here is my short take.

1. The moderator could not have been worse, she allowed Pence to speak over his two minutes, and over his one minute of rebut. Kamala should have told the moderator that if she was going to allow Pence to take more time than allotted she would have to extend the same courtesy to her.
2. When asked about Biden's age, she went on talking about her mother, etc. Instead she could have used that moment to say that, first there were only four years difference between Biden and trump, and while Biden was running up the stairs of the airplane trump was having trouble walking down a ramp, that trump was not well physically and mentally, and now with having fell to covid-19 he was a WEAK man. And yes, those conversations always take place, regardless of the age of the president, it is part of a sound strategy, lets not forget that JFK was murdered and he was a young man at the time.
3. When Pence talked about the H1N1 pandemic she should have corrected the numbers Pence used, only 12,000 people died in one year and the Obama administration followed the guidelines setup by the CDC and the WHO. trump and Pence have not only destroyed the CDC and have failed to follow the CDC and the WHO guidelines. Plus all the lies that are so well documented and on audio for everyone to hear.

And I could go on...The danger with Pence is that, regardless of whether you like him or not, regardless of everyone knowing he lies as well, he is intelligent and a good con artist who with his demeanor can convince a lot of people who never bother to factcheck.

I feel some pain about Harris performance, I thought she would be assertive and a better prosecutor of Pence last night. I mean, even the fly that went on Pence's head knew there was a ton of crap there.

7. Actually she did very well - the polls aren't lying.

She was strong, showed leadership and maturity, and took no shit from Pence and was on the offensive all night - all of Pence's lies have been frequently documented and commented upon over the last 3.5 years.

No need to spend precious National TV time rehashing old crap.

Pence was wooden, and came across as a patronizing White Male in Charge. Typical conservative misogynist.

Even the fly knew where the shit smell was coming from.
