(5,796 posts)She did about as well as anyone could, short of running over to Trump and smashing his smug f@cking face.
What I didn't like is that Trump always insisted on getting in the last word and was allowed to most of the time. Welker did often give Joe a bit of extra time to respond but then Trump would again give the last word.
I did like most of the questions she asked and how she tried to keep the candidates on time. The problem is that there is virtually no way to keep Trump from violating the rules, from lying, and from evading the questions.
She did a far better job than Chris Wallace in keeping the Fool in check. However, she tended to let Trump get away with rebuttals, sur-rebuttals etc, and she should have put a stop to that.
As far as I can tell, the debate ran about 15 minutes over because of this.

(997 posts)to how the debate was conducted. The only stated parameter was allowing an initial 2 minute reply to the initial question, then there was an allotted 30 second rebuttal, but then there were these ridiculous counter rebuttals that continued on and on like a tennis match, to the point where the moderator had to remind them what the initial question was!
Seems to me there needed to be limits on these counter rebuttals with, say, 1 per topic. And I think that Trump working the Refs attack on Welker in the days leading up to the debate should have been punished somehow. Need to include in debate rules: No disparaging remarks of any kind toward debate moderators allowed.
