(26,044 posts)I love Pie's rants about British politics but, when he gets to American elections, he shows the lack of close knowledge that you'd get if, for example, I tried to discourse about U.K. politics to a British audience.
In this case, he's working from the assumptions that:
a) The polls were "drastically wrong" in 2016 (they weren't...they all showed a steadily-tightening race and were very close to predicting the actual outcome; the big difference was the PV/EV split that Pie seems unaware of).
b) There are a YUGE number of "shy Trump voters" that made the difference last time and will prove to do so again this year (in fact, there was no such bloc -- any discrepancy has been shown to be a matter of the likely voter model back then not taking educational level into account, which they're doing now...and, even if there were such a bloc, the margin this year is so much greater than in 2016 it would, in itself, be unlikely to flip results).
c) That it's liberals being nasty to those who would vote Trump that turns the others into the aforementioned "shy Trump voters" (what?).
d) That we're doomed for nominating Biden, because he's not presenting any agenda other than "I'm not Trump" (maybe it seems that way from across the Pond, but I think Pie may be not only unaware of Biden's actual platform, but unaccustomed to the concept of an "American identity" that Biden is pledging to restore, and that is important to American voters in a way he doesn't understand).
e) Finally, that Democrats have no answer to those who may think Trump is a jerk, but who also see him as having "put more food on their table"...and that there are vast numbers of such voters (yeah, right).

(63,221 posts)In fact, I couldn't finish the video because I really felt like he was lacking knowledge and a clear perspective of what this race looks like to many Americans.
And I don't think people are having an easier time "putting food on the table" under Trump than under Obama, not in general, anyway. Most people are doing worse unless they are very wealthy.
Also his rant about the Democrats having no agenda and just playing identity politics turned me off as well. And i usually like his videos. But he was way off the mark on this one.

(291 posts)We are down to the last days. With this video and the Stephen King post, the horror show could actually repeat itself. Hopefully, we outnumber them and we outnumber them in an historic way. We have to.
In 2016, I was positive our country would never elect that imbecile...now I know it's a possibility and I'm nervous.
This time I'm cautiously optimistic.

(25,853 posts)I am likewise one who normally likes his rants, but to think that this is just like 2016 and the polls are simply wrong, fundamentally misunderstands a lot.
