Those are Kathy Kontrim's bassets in Memphis, TN (a continuous basset owner since, I believe, 1966).

Every time I'm feeling down or just grumpy, they cheer me up.

Dulles, a partner of his older brother John Foster Dulles in a law firm representing Nazi interests in Wall Street in the 1930s, was fired as CIA director by Kennedy in the aftermath of the Bay of Pigs fiasco.

Bay of Pigs had pretty much been Allen Dulles' baby, planned in the closing months of Ike's administration. The CIA also began its era (1950s-80s) of aggressive interference and abuses abroad during his tenure.

As you can imagine, he was none too pleased to be fired - and neither were many in the CIA and related military establishments.

His last major role in public service, you'll recall, was in the Warren Commission - which Dulles largely steered.

Here's hoping the full truth comes out about that someday soon - whatever that may be.

Won't have much to do with Oswald or any magic single bullets, that's safe to say.

I wonder what the world would look like today if we hadn't lost him, his brother Bobby and Martin Luther King, Jr. the way we did.
