Chris Hayes: This Is What Essential Work Looks Like - All In - MSNBC

“As we sit down for Thanksgiving this week, a lot of us, thanks to the pandemic, are farther from our families than we would like. But while we prepare smaller meals this year, it is important to remember where all that food comes from,” says Chris Hayes, giving thanks to essential farm workers during the pandemic. Aired on 11/25/2020.

Was picking sweet corn. I think it was $1.5/hr. As far as I know that’s all done by machine now. I picked apples for a couple seasons in my early 20s. All done by immigrant labor nowadays. It’s kind of sad how far removed most Americans are from the food supply.

Or the effort it takes to harvest it. Family farms used to be much more common, my grandfather grew up on one and the family was responsible for the harvest, but that's rare now. And I agree with Chris that these are front line essential workers and they need to be first in line for a vaccine.

Kudos to you on your first job, sounds like hard work. Mine was running rides at an amusement park - started at $1.80/hr, then it went up to $2.30. I was out in the sun but it was fun.

In the early morning. I wish the stations would do more of what is really happening in this Country instead of the breathless ,endless tweets of what Trump’s latest rage is. He has been delegated to the dustbin of History. But it shows how low much of this once great Country has fallen. We can now say,” Where do We go to get our reputation back? We made the first step in this election, but not nearly enough. People still voted for the slime balls that are holding us back.

The Union is asking for vaccinations for those workers. They should get them along with our Hospital Workers. Thank you!

I remember the days, not so long ago, when we heard international news, important stories from all over the world, but today that's a rare exception!

And I sure agree with you, it's important that we hear about and recognize these front line essential workers, too few of us know - or appreciate - where our food actually comes from, or the labor that goes into bringing it to us. We need to protect them at all costs, as well as our front line medical heroes.

On this Thanksgiving Day.

Listening to President-elect Biden is like breathing fresh air after 4 years of pollution

A Happy Thanksgiving to all. Like everyone mine will be my small immediate family. I will drive a few miles. They come to Christmas with me. No big celebration this year. But we can now look forward!

Enjoy, every one. We will diet tomorrow!

I tend to post things that get to me - or in the case of late night, those that make me laugh, figure we sure can use that here, these days. And you're right, it's such a relief to know that change is on the horizon. And when I start getting anxious again, I remind myself that Joe Biden has to have had more experience - and knows more qualified people who could dig us out of this mess - than any incoming president in our history! Plus, he's compassionate and reassuring - what a great quality for a leader!

And wishing you a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving as well. I plan to go nowhere and that's just fine with me!

My Son would be upset since he always plans a big party with his Turkey on the charcoal grill and all his 50 or 60 in- Laws. Not happening this year. They are scattered all over, but it had become a family tradition.

My DiL’s Mother is in Assisted living. Visitors outside the window only.

I really enjoy your heart warming posts. After hearing Biden yesterday it was happy tears time.

Next year a promise.

I'd actually be relieved if I didn't have that ahead of me! I come from a small family, it was usually just me, my parents and my brother, often a grandmother and occasionally my aunt and uncle. We always had a lot of leftovers and my mother made things, like squash, that only she would eat!

Assisted living has to be the toughest thing right now when the initial point was to make things easier. Since the horror show of Trump, I've preferred getting a lot of my news from the late night shows. Since they always made me feel better, I figured others here might feel the same way - besides not staying up as late as I do - so I started posting the ones I watch - and TexasTowelie started posting the others. I figured that we really could use some humor here these days.

As for Joe Biden, as has been said, he's experienced tragedy, so he has compassion, something we desperately need right now. Plus, he actually knows what he's doing, which is a reassuring change!

I was shocked to hear what they are paid. I knew they were underpaid, but I had no idea just HOW underpaid they are and what terrible conditions they work under. More people need to become aware of this.

When I think of what these people put up with day after day without complaint and compare it to Trump's pathetic daily whiny tweets about the most trivial little things it just infuriates me.

They should be first in line for vaccination and should have subsidized health care. These jobs are risky and dangerous and they should not have to choose between getting the best medical treatment or going without food or shelter. It's outrageous.

Thanks Rhiannon for posting this!
