(255,530 posts)My hope is that with the removal of Trump, the fear and insanity will fade - and become unacceptable among the majority. But it's going to take a long time, probably decades, to undo all the damage. I think that the wins in Georgia could go pretty far in setting things right again, McConnell has been the perpetrator of so much of this, but I'm not holding my breath.

(32,138 posts)McConnell is the head of Republican political power in DC and his head is so rotten, that the Party will die when he exits public life.

(255,530 posts)But he has really gone OTT with his obstruction/power trip with the assistance of Trump and his enablers. I often think of how much more Obama/Biden could have accomplished without the mammoth roadblock of McConnell. I agree that he's got to be rotten to the core and he has to be ousted before anything meaningful can be accomplished and the American people can take back our government.

(255,530 posts)Because they changed their voting rules for this election to allow mail in voting. Texas is contesting the results in other states!

(255,530 posts)I just try to keep up - which is not easy these days! Every time we think Trump can't possibly go lower, he manages to come up with something worse! I often wonder what history will make of this lawless era...

(255,530 posts)Which shows how crazy things have become. Former Republicans - and we can all name quite a few - have become the most effective anti Trumpers. Nicolle Wallace has become another favorite of mine. And it was on her show that I heard Steve Schmidt deliver the best anti Trump rant ever - and I've been listening ever since!

(1,493 posts)...Steve Schmidt has made it plain, telling the truth in a clear, unambiguous language. And this isn't a new movement. Mitch McConnell has been every bit of the anti-democracy authoritarian Trump is. The Republicans are comfortable with this because this has been their governing strategy for many long years before now. The majority of Republican officeholders have taken the stance that the only laws to be enacted are laws Republicans make, or that weigh heavily toward what they want. Only Republicans are allowed to choose members of the federal judiciary, and who the president can have as a Cabinet. This thinking preceded Trump, and will remain the Republican's governing strategy long after he's gone. Does anyone not remember Republicans talking about keeping Supreme Court seats vacant for years if Hillary Clinton became president? But Democrats are the "radicals".
These people longer believe in democracy, and, as a minority, have no use for it. Joe Biden got seven million more votes than Trump, but the will of one person from the 26th most populous state decides the fate of 330 million Americans.
How is that "democracy"? It's not, and Republicans and their supporters are alright with it because they have no use for it.
Mitch McConnell has been the most successful Jim Crow politician in the last 60 years, and what he is needs to stop being downplayed, and called for what it is.
