Acknowledging that, for all their foibles and even gross ineptitudes, most people have generally moved forward in their own time, adapting toward improvement. Knowing full well that doing so will cause the, sometimes painful, tearing out of old foundations and replacing them with new to support the coming structure. Thus, just as those among us that dare to dream can occasionally cause great things to happen, so do the dreamers of the past deserve respect and a generous gratitude of spirit.

It's a 180 degree contrast to the MAGA notion that the past inherently holds greatness to which all must cling by ignoring the facts of history and fomenting a perversion of time travel by rewriting them.

He represented moderate and progressive southerners who acknowledged that the much-romanticized past just didn't work - for anyone.

That the past was, if you will, gone with the wind.

But thanks to the GOP and Hate Radio, the new south ultimately lost to the old south:

These days - as you know - moderate/progressive white voters in the South are badly outnumbered by seditious, Confederate flag-waving radicals.

Jimmy Carter lost to Jim Crow.

Yet Biden won some Southern states: Georgia, Virginia, and was competitive in others.
