Related: About this forumHere's why Pete Buttigieg wants to be transportation secretary - (CNN)
Why would Pete Buttigieg, who came from nowhere to become a top-tier candidate in the 2020 presidential race, agree to be the transportation secretary in the now-forming administration of President-elect Joe Biden? In this episode of The Point, Chris Cillizza explains why the former South Bend mayor would get a HUGE political boost from the Cabinet job.

(330 posts)I agree. A lot can be done as Secretary of Transportation and as a member of the Cabinet I'm glad we will see more of him.

(7,662 posts)He ran for President, but going from Mayor of a small town to a federal Cabinet position (even a minor one) is a great stepping-stone.

(2,159 posts)I was thinking maybe Secretary of Defense with his military background and service. I was also thinking Secretary of State or Ambassador to the UN with his linguistic abilities. But this does makes sense. There is no doubt that our country could use a transportation infrastructure boost, and if Mayor Pete was able to accomplish that, it would be a great feather in his cap.
