Since old moth-eaten seared uttered these words, of course, Germany has been brought to heel twice after causing the deaths of hundreds of millions of people, armed and civilian. After suffering tremendous losses in the War to End Wars, Germany went once again into the fray and ended up split in 2 for half a century and is still struggling to regroup as a people.

And how did the bearded one end up after the war? Did he suffer in a prison cell? Was he subject to ridicule and cruel reminders of the devastation he had wrought? While the world tried to stitch itself together -- and Germany reeled into triple digit inflation -- the ruler was allowed to abdicate and cross the border into Netherlands where he spent his copious declining days in luxury.

Thus is it ever with royalty and plutocracy: punishment for crimes is for the "mudsills", not for them.
