15. I'm referring to the 1/4 of the U.S. adult population that voted for Trump

because he didn't like immigrants, Muslims, minorities, etc. And the more than 1/3 of eligible adults that didn't vote at all. If some were fooled by his populist rhetoric in 2016, they didn't have that excuse in 2020. Most will still be around in 2022 and 2024 etc.

Like Roy Zimmerman, Randy Rainbow and all other musical satirists, they are to mock Republicans, mock Trump, and mock the people who believe him ("Decapitate their elbows! Fingerprint their feet!" ). I get notes from Howard Dean and Norm Ornstein about how they got a laugh out of them. No one NEEDS to laugh. But some of us like to, especially in times where funny things have been a scarce commodity.

I really liked the first one until I watched the second one which was even more impressive! Well done and thanks so much for sharing! And, like you, it's my serious hope that we never have to hear about Trump after Wednesday - until he's convicted, then that deserves a mention.

I'd be perfectly happy to hear headlines about how broke he suddenly was, and had to accept temporary residence in Joel Osteen's guest house (or some such), because his 30 grace period at Merde-a-Lago was up, and no one would rent to him without a year's rent up front (which he didn't have).

If there is a new period where there are no awful things going on, or disgusting Republicans causing misery, I'm perfectly happy to return to hibernation. I would be only too happy for a situation that would spur it on.

However, the extremist lunatic fringe seems to have captured the Republican Party, and they don't seem to be aware that in politics, you sometimes have to spend some time in the opposition. While we don't expect to be bombarded with horrible happenings on a daily basis, like we were during the Trump era, we don't see a time of peace and harmony, either. Too many extremists don't seem to get that there are people with a different point of view from their own, and that such views are just as legitimate as their own.

5. And to think how close Trump came -- 42,844 votes short of a tie; 64,935 votes short of a win
Tue Jan 19, 2021, 10:00 AM

State (Electoral Votes) Biden's victory margin
Arizona (11) 10,457
Georgia (16) 11,779
Wisconsin (10) 20,608
Nebraska-CD2 (1) 22,091
Nevada (6) 33,596

If he had won 42,844 more votes across 3 states, AZ, GA, WI, he would have tied in the electoral college.

If he had additionally won Nebraska CD2 (or Nevada), he'd have won it.

Just shows how despite a huge 7.06 million popular vote win, and running against an obviously evil madman, the Democrat won the heavily gerrymandered electoral college by a margin of well under a combined 100,000 total votes in a few swing states. This in an election where more than 155 million voted for either Biden or Trump.

Imagine what would have been the outcome if there had been no pandemic.

7. If you look at 2016

He got in by a similar margin, and with at least one governor (Scott Walker of Wisconsin) known for electoral fraud. He never should have been anywhere near the Oval Office, period. This election SHOULD have been about Hillary's re-election, which should have been a shoo-in.

As for the electoral college, I don't get the reference, since it is impossible to gerrymander a state's borders or its population, only the demographic makeup of the districts within a state.

12. Gerrymander - I was using the term loosely. The EC gives less populated states more weight

per person. I also use the term to describe the Senate, where half the senators represent just 16% of the population.

I know it's not technically correct to call that gerrymandering, but to me, it's kind of like it, but heck, nobody ever claimed I was perfect . I think most readers at DU understand that I'm using the term analogously, so I've chosen not to include a little civics lesson footnote whenever I use the term to describe the Electoral College or the Senate.

I mentioned Trump's win over Hillary by just 78,000 votes across 3 states in the "Details" link, despite losing the popular vote by 2.8 million. As another example of what I call the gerrymandered Electoral College.
