(22,479 posts)to happen on 1/6. The impeachment was started when Trump was still in office.
And can a Senator boycott the impeachment trial but show up to vote? Imagine if that were a regular jury trial - could never happen.
This reminds me of my brother saying that the first impeachment was "All political" Then I asked him what the articles of impeachment were and he said he didn't know. "How can you know it is all political if you don't even know what it is about?"
They live in their own little alternative universe.

(1,652 posts)a talking point he's feeding to the mobs and RW media to see if they embrace it and make it their own. Similar to the "private cos. are violating our free speech" nonsensical argument they obsessively repeat.

(14,572 posts)Nope. Trumpy attempted a coup, and incited that mob. We saw them desecrate the Capitol, hunt for Pence and members of Congress to kill them, and dare to take seats in the Senate chamber to 'set up a new government.' We all saw it live on TV, horrified at what was happening.
Not only must there be a trial, but these cretins must be forced to vote yea or nay in public. They cannot be allowed to dodge this.

(1,850 posts)In the days and weeks following the insurrection.
I've heard and read reports of mass migration of republicans. No links, but over 2,000 in Tampa area, almost 3,000 in NC that I recall, and another few thousand in Arizona, I think.
I suspect many of these folks are the ones who voted for Biden, but I hope a good number are remorseful tRump voters who are only now disgusted by the party.
Still, if the somewhat moral ones are leaving the party, it will be left with the hateful, complicit, and conniving dregs who will transform it to something I have no words for, except an actual cult, attacking anyone who goes against them (they already do that, but it will become required). The few reasonable ones that remain to fight for the party won't have an impact against a cult 45 mentality. And that mentality is evidenced by their lame excuses and continued denial of Biden's victory.
I've joked before that they're the ones with the guns, and we might see them actually shooting each other, but it wouldn't surprise me.

(81,238 posts)Im still fit-to-be-tied about fucking Dennis McCarthy claiming everybody in America is to blame for what happened on January 6th!!!
EXCUSE ME?????!?!?!?!?!?!??!!!!??
Not on your life, Dennis. Only YOUR people did this. Id venture to declare that there were exactly ZERO Democrats or far leftists in that mob. It was ALL YOUR people, dude. Far RIGHT people (or as I prefer to characterize them: Far WRONG!)!

(5,392 posts)What we see here is some poorly thought out 'defenses' and deflections from some very desperate people who see their power slip away!
Guys, your power has already slipped away. During the elections, during the swearing ins that happened recently.
So stop panicking, stop grasping at straws, and get real.
If you can't do that, resign, and go sulk in private.
