Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said during an Instagram Live broadcast that she is a survivor of sexual assault.
Ocasio-Cortez made the statement, which appeared to be one of the first times she has spoken in public about being a survivor, in contextualizing her trauma in the wake of the insurrection at the US Capitol last month. The New York Democrat went through a detailed account of her day on January 6, recounting her experience during the riot.

3. Devastating and courageous

Between this and Evan Rachel Wood coming out yesterday and telling her story of abuse, terror and sexual assault over a period of years it has probably been an intense 24 hours for survivors of sexual assault and abusive relationships. These women are so incredibly powerful when they tell their stories. (I wish CNN hadn't fragmented her testimony but just allowed it to stand unedited. You don't make something this remarkable better by adding anything. But it is nevertheless extraordinary).

4. Just about every girl/woman I have known since I was 12 years old has told me

of being raped, molested by family etc. (And I am a loner type who is not out meeting people all the time.)This is much more pervasive than anyone thinks.
