(67,361 posts)it was meant to be a link between LA and the SAF bay area going up the west side of the central valley in a straight line where there was no population, no stops needed, little if any interfering infrastructure - high speed in a straight shot. instead it got diverted to the east side of the central valley where there are a lot of small to medium size towns who all wanted their share, making huge costs, lots of stops (slow speeds)
it was sold to taxpayers as one thing and is being made as another completely different thing.

(111,141 posts)It's another thing that will happen after the next big crash as soon as the PTB realize they're going to have to put the majority back to work for decent wages if they want to have a real economy, and the best way to do that is through massive public works.
The Great Depression brought electricity around the country. Perhaps the next one will bring us a decent rail system.
We could do it right now, of course, but the plutocrats and their bought and paid for Congress that refuses to raise taxes at the top or wages at the bottom are in the way.
