(19,192 posts)They are scared of Trump's cult of lunatics, but they'd dearly love to have a white, male dictatorship, with them in charge, of course.
Whatever the answer there's one thing they aren't: American. Whatever they want, its certainly not anything like the democracy the United States has enjoyed since 1776.

(2,626 posts)they had foreign (intentionally incompetent?) help setting the whole thing up. Info passed down to other Donny and Repub Critters from the July 4, 2018 meeting with Vlad (let's take down the U.S. A.) the Insurger. Far fetched, but as good as the Russian money CT!
Vlad wins? Trump owes no one any money!

(47,368 posts)Not just afraid for their physical safety, but apparently losing an upcoming election is the worst thing that could happen to their entitled asses. That's really pathetic.
wnylib
(21,420 posts)Most criticism of them is aimed at fear of losing voters. But concern for physical safefty for themselves and their families could be a serious factor.
I am not excusing them. Pelosi, Schumer, and AOC all face death threats frequently, but maintain their positions on justice, equality, and democracy. I just think that physical fear of the thug monsters that these RWers have fed and nurtured is part of the picture. And possibly fear of Putin's thugs as well.
PatSeg
(47,368 posts)must be if your family is threatened, but as you said, Democrats have faced physical threats as well and they haven't caved.
As for Putin's thugs, I still believe there are a handful of republicans who have either been bribed or blackmailed and yes some could be afraid of his thugs as well. That's what happens when you compromise your values and make a deal with the devil I suppose.
I told my daughter last night that if they are really that afraid, maybe it would be better to just quit. They all have of plenty of other options, its not like they will starve if they quit their DC job.
wnylib
(21,420 posts)quit than to sell your soul to stay.
ON EDIT: I once quit a job rather than carry out a supervisor's instructions that violated my own values as well as social values. I could not prove it was more than just "she said-she said," and knew it would happen again if I stayed, or she would have set up a situation to fire me if I went over her head. So leaving was my best option and I had a lot less to fall back on than these legislators have. The supervisor was later fired for the kind of thing she had ordered me to do.

(47,368 posts)until you pointed it out.
I know that must have been hard, but staying probably would have been harder, as it would have made you complicit. I'm glad to hear that the supervisor's misdeeds caught up with her. I can't understand how some people don't realize that lying and cheating is not only wrong, but eventually it will bring you down.
Years ago, I left a job after just one day when I found out that the way people made money was to steal from the till. It was just accepted.
wnylib
(21,420 posts)and you know instantly what you must do. It's tempting to rationalize staying in order not to act on what you know you must do. But when it's clear cut, you realize that rationalizations don't hold up.
Other times, it is not so clear cut. You can get sucked into something before realizing what is going on. Then the fear is that you are painted with the same brush no matter what you do. But once you are aware, you have to do what is right because the consequences if you don't can be far worse, to your integrity and self respect.
In my case, even though I could not prove it to anyone else, the wrongness was clear cut to me so I had no excuse for not refusing and no option but quitting.

(11,562 posts)With their usual arrogance and dismissal of anyone's best interests but their own and their Big Donors' interests, they looked ahead to saying "Yeah, yeah. Whatev. Not guilty" and having that be the end of it.
Only the very dimmest or most arrogant among them aren't wishing as hard as they can to be anywhere else these days.

(5,370 posts)There are Republicans who want to hang onto power.
Letting go of Trump diminishes that perceived power.
They are probably yet to face up to the fact they have lost most of their political power as a result of the election.
Get used to it Republicans, your power to manipulate American politics for your own benefit has already slipped away.
If you want to survive this as a party, cut loose from Trump, learn different ways of doing business, and just live with being the subordinate party. Learn some new skills. Positive skills.
But that's too much for some. Best hang onto Trump, and see if you can get your power back.
Not going to work.
The Trump ship has gone down, and you with it, unless you learn to swim. Before it is too late.
