The opposite of that nasty letter is people here on DU and on the Next Door App offering help. Also the warming centers info is out there. I hope people can get that info.

He's right, the western "rugged individual" is a total myth, and a destructive one. I think that's one reason the drunks are so much more pitiful out here than they are back east, they know nobody cares and have given up completely.

That Texas mayor had better be painting his "For Sale" sign today. I have a feeling his fellow citizens are not going to react too well over the next several days.

Texas as a whole needs to grow up and stop electing these hosers.

It is so diverse and has lots of art and music and theater. Just a few miles from my home, I could get any type of food, hears lots of languages and shop for whatever I wanted. I miss it. Right now I have heat but no water but that is because a sprinkler head blew at the beginning of this mess. Nice guy from across the street reported it to my other across the street neighbor who called me. They all came over and he brought his pliers and shut off the water. (Sad to say he is friendly but spotted his Trump bumper sticker on his truck when he moved in and have been unresponsive to him. The manners I was taught did not include snubbing people who help you just because you do not like their politics. Plan to rectify this with a nice note when I can get out.) Afraid to turn the water back on until everything thaws out. My daughter in Austin has had the power go out numerous times. She has been using the fireplace. I had taken her some wood a few weeks ago when it was not needed but had more to give her but cannot get it to her now.
