(38,083 posts)Those bosses' mental unpreparedness, along with Trump's abdication of CiC help, caused much of the rest of unpreparedness.
Those bosses acted like bureaucrats, being uncommunicative to the 3 here about the FBI's intel. They all said "No." to the question of whether or not they got the FBI intel from the night before.
Bad judgment by the bureaucrats who interface intel with on-the-ground forces.
So they all ended up failing to judge the crowd and the planning behind it, because CPD's terrorism joint task force squashed the FBI's Jan 5 intel.
So, because "normal" advance procedures were in force, not "emergency" procedures, they failed to harden the perimeter, arm the CPD personnel, and being embattled and injured after at least four hours, failed to make arrests.
That's the way I see it. The whole FBI to JTTP to CPD uses too weak a chain of information -- too many bureaucratic deciders -- to act to prepare on-the-ground operations appropriately. Which isn't noticed until a severe riot crowd shows up. And even then, no new Plan B of operational forces are sped up to surround such a riot crowd and detain them for interrogations -- no Nat'l Guard deployment, no arms distribution, no buses for rounding up rioters, etc.
If the funders and enablers of these rioters had known more about CPD personnel, they might have somewhat succeeded in their desired takeover of democracy.

(46,512 posts)In the days prior to Jan 6, I saw several posts, one or two on Twitter I think, that specifically said the size of the CPD force was inadequate, even after I think it was a few thousand National Guard troops were added, and no one knew at the time the NG would be not be utilized.
Trump's frozen appointees were almost equivalent to a stand down order.
Was "Stand back" and "stand by" verbage to cue them in? As if they knew any defenses would be weak, and Trump's words were in the debates, months before.

(38,083 posts)They saw it that way. We saw it that way, too. The fact that he repeatedly told them who and where to "fight like hell" was their real cue to act.
He was glad they saw it that way since we all saw that very phrase on all their clothing and online merch, right? Could they surmise that he'd help them? Of course. They trusted that enforcement backup might be weak, but they didn't take chances on that and came in big numbers once they found out how many police there would be there.
They came without lethal weapons, but also planned to come with whatever could be seen as innocent, yet be turned into weapons -- poles, fire extinguishers, ramming boards, plexiglass and other "protective" gear.

(37,584 posts)First, thank you turbinetree, because this is exactly what I was looking for. I searched my TV channel lineup and couldn't find any of the news stations broadcasting this.
If anyone is having trouble getting this stream, there are quite a number covering it at youtube. I used "capitol security hearings" as my search term and found at least 10.

They were "festive" and "positive", not "angry".
