Boston restores monument to Black Civil War troops

Feb 24, 2021

In a time when statues and monuments around the country are being removed for what they represent, the Shaw Memorial in Boston is receiving attention of a different sort. It is being fully restored, with pride that the monument depicting Black soldiers marching off to battle in the civil war, stands the test of time. Special correspondent Jared Bowen of GBH Boston reports.

of the 54th to portray the men. He put his genius into that work.

If you haven't seen the film Glory, do so. It will lift and break your heart.

Broderick, Elwes, Washington, Freeman, Braugher... the list goes on. And, the soundtrack is amazing. (What else would one expect from the late, great James Horner?)

But, I am expecting to hear from the RWNJs who will want to preach 'fariness' in that if they had to remove the Confederate Civil War monuments, then they should all have to go, as they all would be considered 'glorification' of the war between the states. Just wait. Someone will say it.

would be something like, "Yeah, but see, these guys were fighting for freedom, their future (and ours), and the reunification of these United States. I would rather honor that memory instead of worshipping statues to traitors and secessionists."
