'Refreshing': Smerconish reacts to Manchin's move (CNN)

The Covid-19 relief bill only passed after Democrats satisfied the concerns of Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). CNN's Michael Smerconish says to see such a raw exercise of independent power is rare and refreshing.

1. Somebody made the comment yesterday

that Manchin has figured out how to get elected in purple-red WV ... and that we Democrats ought to pay attention to that. I think it's nothing more than gaining a lot of attention with all the will-he-won't-he waffling, but what do I know. It could be dithering convinced voters he works hard or is reasonable.

Neither party pays heed to those they alienate. Could be Joe Manchin creates fewer enemies with his strategy.

Don't count me convinced of this, just postulating that something else is going on that remains unplumbed.
