there and if lies, culture wars, whatever gets them to "win", it's proven easier for them than developing and trying to sell sound, or for that matter even half baked, policies. We should not forget the Repubs had the House, Senate and WH for the first two years of Trump's term and made surprisingly less legislated policy headway than they could have had they been smart, focused and organized. As bad as Trump was, had he actually had any sense how to govern in our form of government, the nightmare could have been so much worse and harder to undue.
Sadly, while you can understand the Repub politcians being power hungry and willing to use almost any artifice to maintain a level of power, the people being REALLY stupid are the ones that see the evil of the Repub machinations and methods and still vote for them or give any heed to their insane messaging. I suspect this is not the first time in US history that almost 50% of the voters in essence voted significantly against their own and the country's long term interest, but more worryingly, likely not the last.
