(33,643 posts)They're doing nothing but putting on a bullshit dog and pony show for all the rubes living in right-wing fantasy land.
It's so damaging to our democracy what all these people are doing.
I hate them so much.

Democracy depends on the first amendment, not journalists,he says.
OK, the first amendments protects journalists who are critical of the government. The government cannot censor or silence a free press because the news makes the government "look bad." This pplies to individuals as well. The federal government can not squash speech critical of the government.
The First Amendment is not, much to the dismay of republicans, a license to be an abrasive asshole. Ordinary folks do not have to listen to you, and we can call you bigoted, or racist, or pervy, or just plain dumb all we want.
Private corporations, like Twitter, FB, Instagram, and other social media companies set out their terms of service, and the consumer can choose to participate or not. No government entity is silencing anyone. Social media companies have every right to bounce you if you violate their terms of service. Publishers are well within their rights not to publish right wing screeds lacking facts.
They prove themselves not only unqualified, but grossly incompetent every time they open their mouths.
If I displayed the same level of ignorance about my job, and I did zero actual work in my job, I'd be terminated.
Let's hope Ohioans reject this sexual predator and home school dunce once the relief checks hit their bank accounts.
WHat have you done for us lately, Gym, except snivel and whinge about backing a loser?

(2,636 posts)Gym wants to make big tech and big government equaivalents.
Big tech is private industry--governed by the invisible hand of the free market. The free market rejects the Big Lie, rejects instigating insurrection, rejects hate speech, rejects homegrown terrorist communities.
The free market is not obligated to support Hate.
The First amendment begins with the words the Government shall make no laws respecting.... then lays out the areas the government can not make laws: the exercise of religion, peaceable assembly, criticism of government by the press, or the ability to petition the government to address grievances.
He asks disingenuously whether King George considered Thomas Paine a respected journalist. Because the concept of "Journalist" was so entrenched in 1770.
He's spinning a tale told by an idiot, full of sound an d fury, signifying nothing.

(2,636 posts)Fine. Repeal Section 230. Make the Social media sites responsible for the content.
These idots think that will open up avenues for them to spout their bullshit? Nope. FB and Twitter et al. will clamp down on anything that even smacks of criminality or hate or bigotry in a nanoscond.
He's calling for more restrictive speech.
When he said the first amendment decides, not government, he's bloviating. He's no idea what he's actually saying. It just sounds like words, but it's word salad.
