(7,779 posts)There are certain disaster images that I cannot bear to watch - the planes hitting Twin Towers, and the tsunami.
I lived in Tokyo for four years teaching English, and always worried when the buildings shook if this was the big one.

(45,090 posts)But I remember it.. and it was terrifying.. but I still live here.. I love my city.. and I could not even imagine what a Tsunami would do to this city, if one were ever to hit. Fortunately, though I can see the Ocean from my house, it is 20 blocks away DOWN HILL.

(7,779 posts)Right on the Oregon Coast. We have a tall hill close by that we are supposed to climb to safety if the sirens ring. Good motivation to practice hill climbing. I'd probably be one of the slow ones. If it happens, just hope that it's quick.

(8,006 posts)I think I must have watched and re watched every piece of video available of the Great Japanese Tsunami multiple times. The destruction and loss of life was absolutely horrible of course, but the excellent footage people got of it made it the most well documented of these relatively rare events by far and it's just awe inspiring to see the incredible power that earthquake unleashed. What sucks is all the money and hard work they put into designing and building all those walls and barriers to keep the ocean out just didn't work, unfortunately.
Oh, I just noticed ... you turned your name around in the traditional order. Very cool!
