As well as PSAs against pot, communism and (yikes!) miscegenation.

"Is THIS is what you want for your children?" announcer says ominously.

I mean - why go around laughing and skinny-dipping, when you can be like the milquetoast that can't say a word without its being on the teleprompter first.

as well as what hairstyles and clothing styles were best suited for different face and body shapes. I don't recall that boys got the same fashion hints.

And, by the way, while you were instructed to make yourself attractive enough to interest the guys, it was your fault if they responded inappropriately.

Evidently, not pulling your sock up is reason enough for a guy to become a total dick.

One week, late in the year, the boys joined us in Home Ec, where we taught them how to scramble eggs, sew on a button, & do a load of laundry, but there was never a week where the girls went to Shop to learn how to use a drill or saw a piece of wood. I always thought that was unfair & not a service to the girls.

Except the young women got to go to shop class. The only thing I remember is how to rewire a lamp. I can still do it 50+ years later.

P.S. i can also change out light switches, ceiling lights and many other minor repairs. Love my power tools.

Try parochial school in the '40s. Heaven forbid if we caused the boys to have an "occasion of sin." It was assumed and encouraged that our role in life was to be good mothers and wives. I can't recall anyone telling the boys to be good fathers and husbands. And only men could be priests -- celibate priests at that. The nuns took oaths of chastity, poverty and obedience. What a warped existence the Catholic Church promoted in their denial of human sexuality.
