I saw this years ago, and recently went back to watch again. Norwegian police

dealing with an inebriated man who tries to assault one of them.

Lots of comments comparing this response to what American police might have done, especially had the civilian been black.

Several differences noted in the comments: Norwegian police are trained for three plus years, with an emphasis on de-escalation.

American police: maybe six months, depending on the force.

Norwegian police generally don't carry firearms (they carry pepper spray, firearms are locked in the car and require approval from higher ups to be deployed),

American police--militarized and armed to the teeth.

And while this isn't a white on black situation, the civilian is from northern Norway, and has an accent, which the police apparently find amusing. Note though: one of them apologizes for laughing at him.

cusses a lot. Drops the F-bomb, calls the cop a p*ssy, and even so they don't shoot him.

They are talking to him, not yelling at him and working to de-escalate the situation not amp it up.

Just taze or shoot him. Maybe strangle him into submission. Its quicker.

But, I get the impression Norwegians just aren't that violent in general. Aren't they rated as one of the most content nations on Earth?

12. Perhaps they got all that violence out of their collective system during the filming of "Vikings."

Or maybe the actual Viking experience.

So much of this. That type of training won’t appeal to white supremacists. Can’t see them investing the time in it either.

6. It should be mandatory training...if they don't want to attend/get certified in deescalation, then

The idea of enforcing the "War" on drugs and "War" on undesirables armed with surplus military weapons is American's way to "protect" society.

There has to be a lot of changes made.

10. First thing that I noticed is that they are not dressed like SWAT team members. Our cops.....

....dress that way most of the time. Saw two off duty sheriffs deputies working security at a Walmart just before Christmas last year and they were dressed like they were about to go in and break up a prison riot.

but they don't come out assuming that he's going to kill them and probably already searched him for weapons.

American police assume everyone is trying to kill them and has a weapon. hmm... maybe if we had more effective gun laws fewer dangerous people would have guns.
