Fran Lebowitz on Post-Pandemic LifeThe one and only Fran Lebowitz joins Bill to discuss the country's wobbly return to post-pandemic life.
"Other People" in America
April Ryan and S.E. Cupp join Bill Maher to discuss the lack of progress on a fundamental American problem: The people of the United States hate each other.
Tripitor (Psilocybin)
Studies have shown that magic mushrooms can outperform pharmaceutical antidepressants, and Bill Maher has the first new drug ad for the upcoming craze.
New Rule: OK Boomer
Ageism is the last acceptable prejudice in this country, but Joe Biden is the right man for this moment precisely because he IS old.
Here's a "bootleg" version of the show which includes the Monologue, entire interview with Fran Lebowitz (5:33) and panel discussion with April Ryan and S.E. Cupp (18:54), and complete New Rules (47:31). It won't last long, as usual:

(1,979 posts)I used to be a huge fan but finding him less tolerable because of his attacks on democrats. Tonight he was using quotes from Newsweek mag to bolster his "cases" against liberals. Has he not researched who now owns Newsweek? A right wing corp IBT Media bought Newsweek and uses it's legacy name to pedal conservative republican BS. Shame on Bill.

(25,472 posts)I watched the show and didn't hear that. If there were quotes from Newsweek, what was incorrect about them?

(205,220 posts)And I really did like tonight's show, good guests and New Rules.

(25,472 posts)And don't want anyone to watch it. Or imagine all sorts of bad things that aren't there. Weird!

(205,220 posts)I started posting it ages ago since it used to be posted - and was very popular - but the video(s) would disappear after a day, so I found the official videos which stick around. And there are certainly some things on DU that may not interest me, so I just skip over them and move on.

(25,472 posts)Appreciate it.

(205,220 posts)I know that not everyone here gets HBO, has cable or even TV, and we often talk about it, it's newsworthy, so it's here for anyone who's interested.

I really appreciate that it gets posted here! Last night I stayed up to watch the full version before it disappeared and it was really good.

(1,979 posts)based on a Gallup poll and used Newsweek as a source.
betsuni
(25,472 posts)The Gallup poll isn't correct because Newsweek reported it? What?

I have often thought it is unfortunate that DU does not allow posting opposing views or that it is up to the random selections of juries to delete such posts.
And, as others are saying here - I did not find such comments; may have been in a previous show.

(51,584 posts)He did his whole routine about Biden not being too old for the job and all the age-ism before the election has proven the doubters wrong. I laughed since Bill was discussing himself and not acknowledging it. He IS the one guy making fun of Biden's age for a year. None of the Dems that I see on CNN and MSNBC over the years has been into the age-ism thing at all. I think it is more of a problem for Bill than anyone else.

(9,696 posts)others for his age. I don't remember that happening as much to Biden, but I do remember people mentioned it as a concern a lot.
Maher's Rules tonight was a really good segment. I also get tired of people being dismissed because of age. Even if it were true that Maher made jokes at the expense of Biden's age this is his way of saying he was wrong about it. Although I don't remember Maher making a lot of jokes about age, he's usually come out against ageism.

(51,584 posts)That is why I was so pissed off...he takes both sides a lot.

(31,163 posts)especially S.E. Cupp. Discussion wasn't nearly as deep as it could have been. Kudos to Bill for trying.
New Rules was spot on. Lebowitz is always a delight.

(205,220 posts)I agree Fran Lebowitz is always a great guest, funny and entertaining, and I've always like April Ryan, she was terrific standing up to Sean Spicer, but I've never been a fan of S.E. Cupp - she's been argumentative and full of herself when she's been on before. So tonight was a pleasant surprise - she fit right in and didn't argue with anybody! And she voted for Joe Biden! And I especially liked New Rules, too!
Merlot
(9,696 posts)added a lot of interesting points this time. She also admitted that she had changed her view on climate change, it was nice to hear how that came about.

(31,163 posts)she didn't argue but she didn't add much to the conversation either. Panelists have to bring something to the table, not just talk about themselves. News, expert insight, data, etc.
question everything
(47,470 posts)and I think that we should listen to opposing views.
Unfortunately she was constantly interrupted by April Ryan..
Rhiannon12866
(205,220 posts)She was insufferable when she was on before, but, like she said, she's learned a lot in the past few years.

(16,337 posts)Fran Leibowitz who is always delightful. Stayed for the rest, and thought it was a pretty good show, especially new rules. I will say that Bill doesn't seem as sharp as he used to, and too much talking over guests. But overall, glad I watched. Btw, if you have Netflix, check out "Pretend It's A City." If you're a Leibowitz fan, you'll love it....
