(4,925 posts)quite a sight to see for sure and great engineering....but my fear of heights and vertigo preclude me from walking it. I tried walking the Golden Gate once. Did make it to the 1/2 way point then back. I looked straight ahead, never to the side, up or down, the swaying was very disconcerting. I was a nervous sweating wreck the whole time. I didn't enjoy one minute of it.

(7,362 posts)I could do it, but I also like skydiving and repelling.
I once heard a teenager talk about the vertigo feeling with heights and on the edge of something, yet it was an exciting feeling for this teen. Interesting, we might all feel the same thing, but interpret it differently.

(4,925 posts)if I'm not going to enjoy it why bother???
The vertigo feeling can be quite bad and dangerous. I can get pretty dizzy and unsteady....one misstep and its good-bye cruel world!

(4,925 posts)I have zero problems in airplanes. I can sit at a window seat and watch the takeoff and landing and I feel 100% fine. Get me in a tall building next to a window or one of those glass elevators and I'm not OK. I'll be munched up against the doors or close to an inside wall.

(14,818 posts)Decades before 9-11 I worked in Tower 2 of the WTC on the 73rd floor.
I'v been on mountains including as a passenger on a motorcycle previous to that job. I'm afraid of a car I'm in going off the road vs being high up.
When I took the subway to work I could go from station into the below ground shopping "basement" right into the elevator.
I had no problem walking right up to the windows at my
first lunch break to glory in the view! But ...
From the Monday I started ... it took me till that Friday to be able to get out of the subway onto the street
walk across the big plaza looking at the building towering upppppwards, and walk into the ground floor lobby to take two elevators to the 73rd floor.
I love take off & landings on a plane. It's staying safely up in all that main flight that gets me! Luckily on my longest flight ?8 hrs I had some meds to calm me down. 👍

Is it the feeling or sensation of falling?

(14,818 posts)I'd have the trouble of being driven up into, down from mountains. Now That makes me really nervous!
When you look at it from the side areals the dip isn't that big, certainly not the percipitoud was it looks in the telephoto camera shots!
OTHO it doesn't look like enough support cables for me! 😄
