Related: About this forumTRMS: Let's re-examine that DOJ ruling since it's clear it was falsified
"Merrick Garland is the attorney general now, all new leadership at the Justice Department, all new priorities, moving forward with a million things at once, and here's a judge saying, you know, your immediate predecessor in this job lied to me, lied to the court and lied to the American public about something as freaking serious as why the former president was not charged with crimes. You cool with the evidence of all of that being released to the public? Because it's coming out in two weeks unless you want to appeal my ruling."
Someone is going to prison....

(7,925 posts)with the revelations of facts which were kept under wraps during his administration by Barr and others. I doubt he will be re-tried for every single offense deferred. I am reasonably sure Justice will fall upon him and his enablers simply because it must be done to establish that those crimes were not acceptable for members of government to have participated in.

(5,727 posts)He may not know shame, but Con Don does know rage. If there's any justice, the creep who will never be on Mount Rushmore and his rat-swarm will choke on it for the rest of their foreshortened lives until their hearts explode or they turn violently upon each other.
Wouldn't be the first time that happened to a cult.

(5,662 posts)I think Trump is way more criminally exposed than Barr, at least.

Presidents will never suffer in prison. They are above the law.

(5,662 posts)but to be clear, I'm not saying it's likely he will go to jail. But he is so grossly treasonous and awful in every possible way. I don't see how anyone credible can stick up for him.

(32,823 posts)... he'll start telling the real truth about Chump, and whoever is behind Chump. But if Barr thinks he can get off with a wrist slap, he'll never talk.
I believe AG Merrick Garland is fine with all of this.

(89 posts)There is a lot of talk about Trump's legal/criminal problems (may he rot in prison forever) but what may be more devastating to Trump would be losing his wealth, especially his real estate "empire". He is massively in debt and his reputation for screwing over his creditors means most if not all of them won't be keen on cutting him any slack when the bills come due; which they will be doing in the next couple of years. He will be forced to liquidate a substantial part of his empire, either by selling properties for pennies on the dollar or signing ownership over to the creditor(s). There goes Trump Tower (all of them), Mar-a-Lardo, and most of the other properties. And this doesn't count any of the properties that the government (Federal or State) might seize as part of his decades-long tax evasion activities.
No more solid gold toilets for Trump. And, given that he is not the great businessman he claims/pretends to be, the possibility that he can recoup some or all of his losses is basically zero.
With regard to John Mitchell, don't forget that Nixon's VP, Spiro Agnew, also went to prison (on state charges). No reason New York AG Letitia James should hesitate to do the same to Trump for his state crimes.
