1. Incredible. It's a miracle this was caught in time.

I remember driving across the de Soto Bridge in 2010, and it was already showing its age (1973).

But phooey - everyone knows we need another tax cut for the billionaires.

Well HA! As it turns out the old gal is in better shape than the newer, crumbling M bridge.

The FIL would regularly come home from inspection tours and give everyone he knew lists of bridges in the southeast that they should never drive over. Maintenance was not being funded that long ago and it hasn't gotten better since.

This is the I-40 bridge over the Mississippi. I-55 bridge is open but cannot possibly handle the extra traffic well.

I would be curious to hear the Arkansas and Tennessee Senator's position on infrastructure now.

Both this "New Bridge" and the old Memphis-Arkansas bridge on I-55 still give me nightmares. I remember when the Hernando-deSoto Bridge opened. I can't believe it is 50 years old! OMG. I wonder how long the crack has been there? Yikes, yikes, yikes. Plus, since the old bridge is now reserved for cyclists only, how in the world are Memphians getting to West Memphis, Arkansas?
