Stephen Colbert: "We Have Lost Our Way" - Guest Cindy McCain On The State Of The Republican Party

Cindy McCain sits down for a wide-ranging interview to discuss her disappointment in the Republican party, share her struggle with painkiller addiction, and talk about how she recovered from a stroke by learning how to drift cars. You can read more about Cindy McCain in her new book, "Stronger: Courage, Hope and Humor in my life with John McCain."

She, darth vader's daughter, mittens, & a few others don't leave the crazy party?

They could become moderate Demoratic figures or start their own party but, despite the abuse they have endured, they just keep taking it.

Imagine if cheney had publicly switched parties after being attacked. Almost impossible to imagine, isn't it? I know they specialize in goose stepping but this is really profound. They stripped her of an appointment for speaking the truth...

I guess hatred is a strong motivating factor.

Liz Cheney has the same beliefs as her father does and we know how much we've agreed with him over the years. The thing that I find most amazing is that the former guy is so incredible horrific and offensive that he makes the Cheneys look better!

And we do know that John McCain did split with his party when he felt it was necessary just like Liz Cheney is doing. We may not agree with them on a whole lot, but at least they stick to their principles and that is something to admire, if nothing else...

True about the few who do stick to their very limited principles, for sure!

I would not want my name affiliated with a very high % of pedos, traitors, etc.

The Republican party is no longer the party of Eisenhower, in fact it's just the opposite now, let alone the party of "Honest Abe" which they persist in falsely boasting about. It's been happening for awhile, but it appears that the former guy killed it for good. Not one of those former principles remains - it's become the party of all those things you named, thanks to the liar-in-chief and his deluded followers. And an international embarrassment...

No plans to fix or improve anything Only their desperate attempts at voter suppression & other racist, hate-based initiatives.

Their party is a receptacle for sick minds. I would not wish to be associated with such a group.

The people they represent are an afterthought - or in some cases, a problem to be overcome. These billboards that went up in my district back in February are relevant now more than ever!

The "big gubmint" they decry is a rich feeding trough.

Hows about legislators pass a law, zero loopholes: you profit in any way from govt service, mandatory life in prison, no parole. Then DO IT.

Interest would quickly wane.

If they rape children, conspire with foreign powers, attempt to overthrow the US govt., destroy USPS, etc., etc., etc., put themin the broken box.

Why are they allowed to walk freely among us & continue to run our govt., in many cases?

They are perfect examples, for us, how not to be. Without them we might slip up and make a mistake without knowing it. Using them, we can catch ourselves before we get caught up in those behaviors. It's like, did I just say or think of saying anything that trump might say. We need those examples.

when Nixon courted the southern bigots and welcomed in a cadre of criminals to cheat his way into power. Once that happened, your party relied on such tactics and they were lost to decency.

Face it, you've spent your life supporting a bunch of criminals and bigots so your taxes would be lower.

Shame on you.

The Republican Party hasn't lost its way - she just doesn't like where taking every single right fork and following all the same signs has taken them to. The signs all said that Naziism was at the end of that road, they just said they would stop before they got there. Hah - one of you assholes had to step on the brakes at dome point for that to happen but that would have required integrity, humanity, generosity, and compassion.
