.@SenKamalaHarris: Has the president or anyone at the White House ever asked or suggested you open an investigation into anyone?
BARR: ..... ah .....
HARRIS: Seems like something you should be able to answer
BARR: I don't know .......

(7,733 posts)There was probably private investigators all over DC trying to scrape up dirt on anybody who even hinted at opposing Blabba the Gutt. I noticed they even investigated a minor.

Hunting Leaks, Trump Officials Focused on Democrats in Congress
WASHINGTON As the Justice Department investigated who was behind leaks of classified information early in the Trump administration, it took a highly unusual step: Prosecutors subpoenaed Apple for data from the accounts of at least two Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, aides and family members. One was a minor.
All told, the records of at least a dozen people tied to the committee were seized in 2017 and early 2018, including those of Representative Adam B. Schiff of California, then the panels top Democrat and now its chairman, according to committee officials and two other people briefed on the inquiry. Representative Eric Swalwell of California said in an interview Thursday night that he had also been notified that his data had subpoenaed.

in order to scoop up emails, phone records, and whatever else they could to persecute those suspected of leaks and being Trumps enemies. Apple was put under a gag order so nobody knew they were being spied on.
When Biden said this practice was absolutely wrong, Apple was released from its gag order and they informed the victims.
Among these people were newspaper reporters such as Michael Schmidt, and Congressmen Swallwell and Schiff, and their staffs, AND their families, including one minor.

(1,905 posts)The bastards violated the Constitution under the Raygun Regime. The violators were pardon or let get with barely a sentence. Funny how every time the conservanazis have the White House the commit lots crimes, do investigations to destroy Dems and never get charged and convicted. Am I the only one noticed this? Just curious.

(43 posts)if a "order" from POTUS could be construed as a "ask" or a "suggestion"? Then, when Kamala tried to clarify her question she kept making the hypothetical question less of a demand and more of a request. I just had the feeling that Barr was able to deny the gist of the question because she phrased it as a request instead of a demand. In short, Kamala softened the question and gave the President and Barr the benefit of the doubt. It gave Barr a way to slither away without a direct answer because the actual conversation was an "order" and not an "ask".

(43,044 posts)I take that to imply, and I'd put money on this, that he was told the investigations were already underway ... let's not forget Sessions also has disavowed any knowledge of the secret subpoenas. So ... sounds to me like SOMEONE signed off on them, these AGs were informed but did not discuss or approve necessarily, they just needed to know. Question is WHO signed off, how did it get through a grand jury. Is a secret purge underway, led by someone unknown? ... What is going on?
