I went to a Sagan lecture in the 1980s and the term he used when speaking to a bunch of University Students was not bologna but bullshit. In a question and answer period following the lecture a student, in an attempt to ambush Dr. Sagan, rose and asked, "Dr. Sagan, do you believe in God." Dr. Sagan's flat aspect reply was, "Which God?" It totally buffaloed the person that asked the question. As I remember it, the questioner did some stumbling and mumbling to the amusement of the crowd until they sat down and shut up.

(114,615 posts)It always wrong foots them because it's just not anything they consider. They are so invested in the "I know something you don't know" that they rarely question where some bit of disinformation might have originated. That mindset is what turns them into total suckers.
They'll never realize that, of course, since to them knowledge is power, no matter how questionable the source is until someone questions it.
