Jaime Harrison says the Supreme Court ruling used the poison of Jim Crow to weaken the Voting Rights Act once again by upholding two Arizona voter restrictions that discriminated against minority voters. He adds this decision puts a tremendous amount of pressure on Congress to act and Democrats will fight to mobilize voters to protect every damn vote that we can. Aired on 07/01/2021.

(206,074 posts)The thing is, it shouldn't be necessary - but the last few unqualified justices ended up there due to Republican cheating.

And I truly hope Moscow Mitch blocking Garland's appointment comes back to haunt him in big ways.

(2,698 posts)his cronies on SCOTUS (yes, I know, but how could Thomas be . . ? Trust me, he might call it by something different, but he views blacks with the same contempt as Alito and the rest.) And good ole boy Sammy Alito even admitted that the law discriminated against blacks but that, hey, whats wrong with that? His decision was rendered because he sees nothing wrong with discriminating against blacks or others: The mere fact, he said, that there is some disparity of impact does not necessarily mean that a system is not equally open or that it does not give everyone an equal opportunity to vote. -- In other words just because them blacks has to walk 10 miles in the heat and wait for 10 hours without water to vote at the only polling place opened in their district while their white counterparts get to go to one of several polling places (air conditioned, of course) and wait on line for not much more than 10 minutes doesnt mean the blacks are being discriminated against, now does it?)
So Roberts, after getting hit for his clearly racist feigned ignorance of racism in Shelby, now has his go-to racist to write opinions and take the flak.
And, at last and obviously, lest there be any doubt at all, SCOTUS has made it clear that it is a Republican-Trump-Fascist court. I think its logical to predict the overturning of Roe with this gaggle of 19th century bastards making decisions.
