Chris Hayes: Right-Wing Engineers Outrage Over Vaccine 'Coercion' - All In - MSNBC

“This is an active choice by an almost incalculably cynical set of political actors to harness the power of backlash politics in pursuit of more sickness and more death,” says Chris Hayes on the right-wing mobilization against the vaccine. Aired on 07/09/2021.

In Argentina - where, like in the U.S., the right is having a very hard time being in opposition without threatening democracy and public health - they took to 'celebrating' the country's independence day by staging a 'burn-in':

A (small) crowd of wingnuts gathered in downtown Buenos Aires to burn face masks - as well as a syringe effigy, promising to "burn vaccines."

The already-struggling country (which they bankrupted in 2018), is only now overcoming a deadly 2nd wave with over 40,000 deaths in the last three months.

Do they think every news outlet that reports the ongoing deaths is also "a hoax?!" And it's projected to get worse - the aim was 80% vaccinated to arrive at reasonable public safety - but nowhere is anywhere near that. Even my New York county is only at 64%.

Ending the mask mandate was way premature, but now it's impossible to put the genie back in the bottle. Here in New York, where a mask was required to enter any and all businesses, many businesses/stores, etc. now say that a mask is only required for the unvaccinated. Well, guess who objected to the mask mandate to begin with??

Right-wing figures, meanwhile, are rubbing their hands - because the more of these mask-less protests they can whip up, the more cases and deaths there will probably be.

At which point they start up with the wailing and gnashing teeth about "all the deaths under this government's watch!"

That'll almost certainly be the GOP strategy here next year if, God forbid, cases begin to rise again.

I'm almost the only one wearing a face masks at the stores anymore these days - and like you, that makes me worried.

Since it's those who believed the pandemic was "a hoax" who fought the mask mandate and are refusing to get vaccinated - and save not only their lives, but those of their families and their communities - are those who inexplicably continue to vote Republican.

And, yes, I still wear a mask when I enter a store, pharmacy, gas station, etc. even though I'm often the only one except for employees. One young female employee saw my vaccination sticker and pointed out that if I'd gotten a shot - she apparently thought I'd just gotten my first shot at the nearby clinic rather than having gotten shot #2 back in March - that I no longer needed my mask. But I continue to wear it since I don't trust those around me. *sigh*

Or so the Republican poobahs think.

It's awful to even type such a thing - but as you know, to the GOP leadership, it's all about winning or losing.

And if creating another wave for the sake of beating down Biden's approval is what it takes, "so be it."

The deaths? You make an omelet, you break a few eggs.

In the meantime, it's great to hear you (and I assume, your loved ones) are still taking precautions. Shame on the CDC for their mask "guidance."
