2. American Catholics could care less about what the Pope says - they view him

as just another "liberal". The Jesus that they supposedly worship has absolutely nothing in common with not only Catholics but most Christians these days.

Check out the tragedy that the Catholic Church is responsible with regard to First Nations and it is quite easy to see they have no credibility when it comes to basic morality. If you go even further back in history it will shock you.

4. NO. That is only true of RW Catholics. Most American Catholics are "cafeteria Catholics"

and pick and choose what they wish to believe/follow. While SCOTUS has their extremist Opus dei Catholics, they are not typical of most American Catholics.

I can only judge by history and it is not a pretty story.

15. Instead of focusing on what was said on the video you went off on a tangent.

Want to play that game? Let's talk about how the Democratic party used to be the party of slavery.

But I digress.

Joe Biden is a practicing Catholic yet was instrumental in getting the ACA passed so your sweeping generalization misses the mark.

the catholic church. it was bad enough here.
but at least when my sister got pg at 17, they just kicked her out of school. they didnt make her a slave or take my niece from her.
needless to say she also wasnt a tiny corpse dumped in a sewer pipe.

13. Many here on DU feel very free to voice their disapproval of any or all things Catholic.

Example above:" it is quite easy to see they have no credibility when it comes to basic morality."

I know of no other body of which such a sweeping statement would be levelled or tolerated either here on DU or elsewhere.

Many on DU even go to the Catholic Safe Haven group here on DU with comments offensive to Catholic subscribers.

We know that most of the other religious groups here are not attacked in this manner, and when a comment or subject crosses their line, it is quickly called out.

There are and have been serious problems within the Catholic church over the millenia of its existence. Some have been resolved, some remain. Most Catholics are not unaware of these.

However, there are real and serious reasons so many choose to live life as a practicing Catholic and they deserve to be honored and respected here on DU and elsewhere.

It is a shame he was the 2nd choice for Pope
He'd have been a hell of a lot better than Benedict

Benedict stepped down/was removed? Benedict never actually resigned, right?

8. He took the title of Emeritus (I think I spelled that right)

Which means he is no longer the Pope.
According to Benedict, he resigned
As an emeritus, he can still wear white and can comments on doctrine
But he has no authority over the day-to-day work in the Vatican and cannot promote clerics to hire offices, cannot make doctrine, etc

From Mar 2021
Former pope Benedict has chided conservative Roman Catholics who have not accepted his decision to resign, calling them “fanatical” and reminding them there is only one pope and it is Francis.
